 - 1978:Rebecca
Willson opened a new travel agency in Cleveland, Tennessee named Personal Travel
Consultants. Two years later, PTC was invited to join Allied Travel International
as a shareholder/owner.
- 1988: Allied Travel International was sold
to the Upchurch family in Ft. Worth, TX and became known as Allied Percival International
(API), before later being rebranded Virtuoso.
- 1988: PTC began "hosting"
some former employees who wanted to work from home and continue selling travel.
This formed the basis of a whole new business model, and PTC became the first
Virtuoso member to operate as a full time host agency.
- 1990: Betty
Fuller and Margaret Shirley established Sterling Travel in Atlanta. Sterling was
the leading upscale travel company in Atlanta and became a member of Virtuoso
in the early 1990s
- 2003: PTC and Sterling Travel merged and the
PTC hosting program was moved from Tennessee to be headquartered in Atlanta.
- 2004:
Sterling Travel was sold to Brownell Travel, the oldest travel agency in the United
States.
- 2005: Brownell hosts our first companywide meeting of ICs,
inside travel advisors, staff, and key vendor partners.
- 2006: ESTABLISHMENT
OF MENTORING PROGRAM
- 2008: Hosting program operations moved from
the Atlanta location to Brownell headquarters in Birmingham, AL. Today, Brownell
has offices in Birmingham, Atlanta and Mobile and several groups of Independent
Contractors have established physical offices in their local cities.
- PRESENT:
Brownell continues to serve as a thought leader in Virtuoso and the travel industry
- pushing advances in technology, consumer perception of travel advisors and recruiting
tomorrow's talent to the industry.
